Character Information
[/u]Full Name: Carmen Nova Carrillo
State: Arizona
Capital: Phoenix
Date of Birth: February 14, 1912
Country: Mostly held by Mexico, partially disputed between various Indian Nations.
Affiliation: Independent
Appearance:
Carmen's heritage mixed with her environment has greatly effected her appearance. Naturally, her skin is only lightly tanned and a little bit darker than Antonio's but due to the harsh sun in her state and the fact that she's had to work outside she appears much darker than she naturally is during the summer and during the winter she is very pale. She has a very curvy figure and only stands at 5' making her what some would call a short ball of curves. Her hair is a deep red brown and falls to the middle of her back, normally done in a braid. At first glance her eyes seem to be very dark and most assume they're brown when they're actually a gray shade of blue. Her eyes often convey the majority of her emotion. What she wears tends to vary but she keeps a gun with her at all times and often has her hat, a frayed and old leather cowboy hat, with her but necessarily on. She normally wears black but can be seen wearing all different colors lately due to the fact that she's had to buy a new wardrobe.
Likes:
- Warm Weather - SHE HATES THE COLD! That's really the only reason that she loves warm weather, though she bitches about that too. There really is no way to make her happy unless the weather is somewhere in the 80s, in which case she's happy.
- Sunsets - Namely Southwestern sunsets that paint the entire sky in beautiful shades and go on forever, she dislikes visiting the east because she can't see as much of the sunset and is known to complain about this fact. She also takes great pride in her own personal sunsets.
- Guns - Perhaps a little too much. She's loves her guns and knows how to shoot almost anything that you hand to her, including various other ranged weapons. She's dangerous with her guns though and it's suggested that she be avoided when she's angry.
- Silence - Pretty much self explanitory, she likes her quiet time and doesn't take lightly to it being interrupted.
- The Smell of Rain - Or really the rain in general, she's known to be found outside in the rain whenver it does rain. This is probably because it rains so little in Arizona that she's not used too it and thus holds a strange adoration of it. She especially loves the smell of it for reasons that she doesn't like to talk about (like almost everything else).
- Her Hair - Doing her hair and taking care of her hair is another one of her guilty pleasures and is something that more people know about than dancing. It is not suggested that you bother Carmen while she is doing her hair because there is a possibility that she will kill you if she messes it up and it's your fault (her hair represents Snob- er...Scottsdale.)
- Water - Her favorite element if only because there's very little of it in her land. She loves everything about water from rain to swimming to fishing to boating. If it involves water, she's likely to enjoy it.
- Dancing - Despite a great many objections, she loves dancing and and is quite good at it (probably thanks to her Spanish blood). She doesn't dance much and it's more of a guilty pleasure than anything else. No one but a very select few people know that she can dance or have even seen her dance, fewer know how much she loves it.
- Fire - Both a fear and a love, Arizona loves the beauty that is found in fire but is also very afraid of it because she is well aware of the power that it holds. Never-the-less, she finds it to be extremely beautiful.
Dislikes:
† Too many people to count
† Being hounded about her feelings
† Looking weak in front of others
† The cold
Strengths:
† Good with a gun
† Rarely grants mercy
† Can be totally emotionally detached
† Can survive in severe climates
Weaknesses:
† Not really in touch with her emotions
† Has a very quick temper
† Not the best people person
Personality:
Carmen is known for her hot/cold personality. One second she can feel one way and the next she'll feel just the opposite. One second she may be about to shoot someone and the next she'll be trying to save their life. Thankfully, for people trying to read her, her personality comes in two different extremes. Very soft, kind, and vulnerable as well as very stubborn, mean, and blood thirsty. Normally she just prefers to stay away from people all together. She has a splash of spunk that's common in women of Latin blood and isn't afraid to kill someone who's crossed her. She tends to keep her deeper emotions to herself and only lets them out when they're too much to cage in. She holds a high value for family and thinks that people who have their family around them should treat them kindly. Once you gain her trust and move pass the rough exterior, however, she is very protective and very loyal and you're bound to have a friend for life. Rather you like it or not.
Relationships:
† America - Carmen doesn't really have an opinion on her country and never really took the effort to establish a strong connection. As long as he stays out of her business, she's happy.
† Spain and Mexico - Carmen seems to hold a huge grudge against both for reasons that she doesn't often speak of. She hates them both with great i intensity.
† The Navajo Nation - Yiska Tséníjíkiní is, or at least was, Carmen's favorite of her brothers and was always the one she looked up too. She has only ever wanted his love and support, which she's had all along but never knew it. He's now a touchy subject with her. She supports his efforts to claim her land, but not outwardly.
† Maine - Her current crush. Carmen gets along well with Maine and likes him a great deal but has a very strange way of showing it.
History:
Carmen came into being sometime long before European settlers arrived on the North American continent. She lived in the area that is current day Arizona with her 'brothers' and 'sisters' and grew very close to them over the years. She was closest with her brother Navajo, Yiska, who took very good care of her and watched over her as well as her brother Apache, who taught her in the ways of the world. Carmen greatly valued her siblings' teachings and followed them closely, treasuring every part of life just as she was taught. In these years, she was much more innocent than most would believe and was extremely carefree, a stark contrast to how she is today. Everything changed, however, when a strange man by the name of Antonio arrived, claiming to be there in the name of God and the Spanish Crown. He took Carmen in the moment she stated the ancient name of her lands: Arizuma, meaning silver bearing in the Aztec language.
Antonio took very good care of Carmen. He taught her how to read, write, and speak in Spanish and he taught her about God and how this 'God' person created everything. He taught her how to use what was called 'a gun' to defend herself and he taught her how to build churches and houses that were much more magnificent than the dwellings built by her siblings. Carmen grew very close to him and looked up to him as a father but while he was treating her well, something darker was happening right under her nose. She was kept in the dark when it came to the treatment of her siblings. Antonio treated the Indians very poorly using them as slaves and often beating them when they didn't obey. It got to a point were Navajo and Yavapai would no longer stand for it and demanded a revolt. Apache was their only opposition and he insisted they not fight with Antonio if only to save Carmen from the mental torture of it. This enraged Navajo and he started shouting that their treatment was Carmen's fault in the first place, not knowing the young girl was listening in the brush. Eventually, she asked him if he hated her and he said yes before leaving. Apache finally decided that it was time to fight, if only to protect Carmen's happiness and the great divide between her and her siblings slowly began to forum.
The wars between the Indians and the Spanish continued all the way up until the Mexican revolt, after which Carmen fell into the care of Mexico. By the time that this happened, the girl had formed a hate for anyone of Latin origin and often took it out on Mexico. It was a rocky several years and it was dotted with more Indian uprisings in Carmen's area. Eventually, the divide was too much to bear and Carmen cut her hair for the first time, swearing never to go back to the teachings of her siblings. She decided that she would fight if only for the reason of enjoying the rush. The Mexican-American war soon followed and Carmen fell into Alfred's care, but didn't really put much thought into it. She liked the fact that Alfred wasn't Hispanic, but that was about it. Shortly after coming into his care, the days of the Wild West and the Gold Rushes sparked and Carmen fell further into the black.
The days of the wild west were known as the most frightening days in the Arizona area, if only because of Carmen's wild and almost insane actions. She lived by her own laws and killed anyone that got into her way and slipped into a state that would've brought shame to her siblings if they ever saw her. The more the Indians in her area revolted, the more Carmen killed, and the more she killed, the tighter Alfred tried to make his grip. It wasn't until the events of the OK Corral that Carmen started calming down, and the only reason that she did was because she was finally given the truth. Her siblings never had hated her, but they could no longer stay under such harsh Spanish control and due to their revolts, things could never return to the way they were.
Carmen finally began to calm down and was admitted into the Union as a state in 1912 once the other states were quite sure that she was stable. She has spent the years since living on her own as far away from others as possible. The only two explosions that happened were events over immigration and events right after the fall of the US. Now, her territory is disputed between Mexico, Navajo, and Apache.

People say that time moves fastest when you're angry, happy, excited, having fun, or frighten. Just the same, it's often said that time passes slowly when you want it to go quickly. When you're bored, when you're sad, when you're waiting, when you least expect it, an minute can feel like hours and an hour can feel like days. Days become months and months become years and when you look back on it later, you realize that what felt like several years was only a short span of three days. You don't really learn the lesson until you've gone through something that's felt like centuries when it was only a few minutes. When you cry for a few hours but it feels like years. When you've lost someone and you wish so desperately that the time would move faster, but it doesn't. It drags on and on until finally you can't cry and you stare at the ceiling, waiting for a miracle, waiting for them to come back.
Then you realize that they're never coming back. Never. When someone dies, they're gone forever. When they say goodbye, they're gone forever. Goodbye means forever.
Forever.
Arizona had never been one to believe in such a word. Forever. She'd always been naive enough to believe that maybe, just maybe, if she tried hard enough then goodbye could mean just for the time being. Despite all the deaths, all the pain, all the tragedy, she'd foolishly thought that goodbye meant just for now. Just for now. It didn't, and it'd taken losing someone like Colorado for her to finally realize that when someone dies, the don't come back.
She rolled off the couch and onto the floor, staring at the ceiling. Since America had fallen to bits, she'd become part of the Native American territory again. She thought, wished, that things could go back to normal. Just like always, her wish didn't come true. Something indeed was different about Navajo and Apache and before she knew it, they'd killed him. They'd killed poor Colorado. No, he'd gotten in the way because she'd begged for someone to make it stop. It was her fault...
She took a deep breath and curled up on the ground closing her eyes. All she wanted now was for someone to come and distract her, for someone to come and be with her while she was lonely. She wanted to be convinced that there was something out there that made it better and part of her wanted for someone to come that could make it better. Someone that was good at distracting her, that wasn't from her area, that didn't know how she felt.
Someone...
Anyone...
"God damnit..."
She sprawled out along the floor, breathing in and out peacefully as she tried to calm down. There was a way to calm down, there had to be. Nothing was hopeless and as much as she liked the preach pessimism, she did pray that things weren't hopeless. Her large brown eyes fluttered towards the clock again and then out the window. "Only seven...that means the sun will be gone soon..."
As she stared, she thought she saw someone outside. Thought. At the same time, she dismissed it and sighed heavily. It was probably nothing.OOC Information
