Character Information
[/u]Full Name: Katiyana Braginski
State: Alaska
State Nickname: The Last Frontier
Capital: Juneau
Country: Russia
Affiliation: Katiyana loves Alfred, who she calls mother despite his protests. She can't stand being apart from him and the rest of her family, especially Jonathan. So she fully supports the Union being reformed. In fact, she would like nothing better. She loves her father dearly, but the fall of the US left a gaping hole in her chest that she knows won't be filled until she's back safe and sound with her family.
Date of Birth: January 3, 1959
Appearance: She's half Inuit and half Russian. Her skin is naturally tan, but not to the same point as full Alaskan natives. She has straight, silky black hair that she keeps in braids. He eyes are purple like her father's and she often wears an elkskin parka to keep warm. She is very fond of jeans, though. They're just more for inside than outside. She is also fond of tshirts with sloagans on them, but since she is almost always wearing a jacket, even inside, most people don't get to see her funny and sometimes nerdy tshirts.
Likes:
Flying - Her mother taught her a long time ago and she took to it like a fish to water. The only way to get in and out of her capitol is by plane or boat.
Sailing - Something about being out on the frigid ocean all by herself with the wind in her hair, gliding past ice bergs and seeing the marine life all around her makes her feel at peace.
Whale Watching - She shares her mother's intense love of Whales, having several wild ones that she's befriended. She finds them majestic and very beautiful.
Mining for gold and oil - She loves working with her hands, especially menial, back breaking jobs. She feels accomplished when she striked oil or stakes a particularly good claim. Things mean more when you work hard for them.
Hiking - Once again, there's something about being all alone in nature, or maybe with a few close friends, that strikes her as enjoyable.
Fishing - Especially ice fishing. It's relaxing and allows her mind to wander and think over whatever's weighing her down. And of course no one ever says no to her delicious cooking when she gets home with her catch!
Watching the salmon run - She loves being out there in the thick of it with the fishermen, the bears, and all the fish swimming upstream. She'll often make a big catch herself and cann what she's caught to last her through the winter.
Dog sledding - With just her and the dogs racing over the snowy terrain, she feels alive and happier than she does when spending a quiet evening at home with her father as she does most days.
Snow ball fights - She has a very playful, childish side to her that comes from being so young in comparison to the others. So she loves snowball fights. She often pegs her father when he's not looking.
Dislikes:
General winter -
Hot weather -
Big cities -
Large crowds -
When her dad gets creepy -
Strengths: Lots of land, easily withstands cold temperatures, hardy, a good hunter and tracker, flies well
Weaknesses: Shy, hates warm temperatures, doesn't have much farmland
Personality: Alaska is a very shy girl who doesn't like large crowds or being put on the spot. She was never really the center of attention and kind of easily forgotten except for that incident with Sarah Palin. That was mortifying for her, as she is painfully shy. But she's also a lively young woman who loves nature and hiking. She comes alove inthe wilderness and befriends animals, even grizzly bears. She loves hunting, fishing, and often will live in an igloo for months during the winter for fun.
Relationships: Russia is her other "parent", along with Alfred. She's in love with Ohio
History: In 1867 she was purchased from her "father", Russia, and made a US territory. She has vauge memories of when she lived with her father, but it's not very clear to her. She has clearer memories of when he would visit her after she went to live with her "mother" Alfred. She loved both of her parents dearly and looked forward to these visits. She wasn't officially a territory of herr "mother", but she was treated well and allowed to see her father.
During the 1890s there were gold rushes, bringing lots of settlers to her lands. She was happy to have people and not be so lonely anymore, but she was glad that there weren't nearly as many as she'd seen in some of the other states. She didn't think she could handle it if there were alot of people. But in 1912 she was granted official territory status, officially making her a part of the United States.
For a long time afterwards she was left mostly alone, allowed to roam her lands and take care fo her own affairs. During WWII there were a few military bases set up on her Aleutian Islands, but she didn't mind. So she was left alone for the most part. That is, until the 1950s, when she started petitioning for statehood. So in 1959, at the heart of the cold war between her parents, she became an official state, finally able to join the rest.
Once again she was left mostly alone, not really having much political importance. A few things broke up the monotomy, such as Sarah Palin, the building of the railroads, oil spills, and an earth quake, but mostly she was left alone. And she prefers it that way, being painfully shy. But the breaking up of the US changed that. Her father, worried for her safety and wanting the land back, came and brought her home with him. She's content there, but she wants her mother back. So she fights for the States to be reunited, thinking that they will all perish if they don't come back together and trying to remind the rest that they were strong united.
RP Sample:
She remembers it so clearly, the day that the United States fell from power. It tore through her like a gunshot, being severed from the rest of them. She didn't know what it was at first, having been much too young to remember the similar feeling of being torn from Russia.
She looked around, wondering what had happened. But there was no one there, save General Winter. He was always right behind her, like a stalker who never leaves or attacks. But suddenly he was there, her father, who she hadn't seen in quite some time.
"Katiyana...it is time to go."
She didn't understand! Where were they going? Were they going to see mother? (who had often told her to stop calling him that) But no, she was ushered into her parka and onto a plane, leaving behind her house that she had lived in for so long. She didn't understand. Not when she was guided into her father's house, not when she was told she would be living with him from now on, not even when she fell asleep with an aching hole in her chest. She didn't understand until the next day when her father set her down gently and explained.
It was over. Her country had fallen...
She was alone.
